What is an allele? is it an actual physical object or is it just like saying it's an alternative form of a gene? I don't understand. Can someone please explain what an allele is? I've looked all over the internet.

OpenStudy (frostbite):

It is as you suggest an alternative form. If I had to explain it using my own words it would be the following: An allele is a specific version of a DNA sequence, which is found at a particular location in a chromosome

OpenStudy (frostbite):

Does it somehow answer you question or still confused?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, ok, so basically there is the gene, which is the expected trait, and then, hidden along, is the allele, which is a small possibility of a different trait?
