OpenStudy (anonymous):

the odds ratio for heart disease comparing males to females was 1.1 (95% confidence interval: 0.79—1.43). What conclusions can you draw?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Okay, the interval contains 1.00. This is VERY important. You tell me why.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Note: The odds? What a strange statement. I think it means the PROBABILITY.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It does not mean probability. Odds are defined as p/(1-P), or the ratio of the probability of an event occurring to the probability of the event not occurring. The result you cite is in the range for residual confounding. If this comes from logistic regression, then whatever this ratio was adjusted for is likely a confounder.
