Pick and 2 elements in the expression and distribute the terms. Then repeat with the remaining two elements.

i.e.

Distribute 4x to each term in parentheses.

\[(4x • 3x) + (4x • y)\]\[ 12x ^{2} + 4xy\]
Repeat with remaining elements.

\[(12x ^{2} + 4xy)(4x - y)\]\[48x ^{3} - 12x^{2}y + 16x ^{2}y - 4xy ^{2}\]
Combine like terms to simplify.

\[48x ^{3} - 4x ^{2}y - 4xy ^{2}\]
