When a majority of scientists worldwide agree on a common explanation to a problem, the explanation is called a

OpenStudy (kainui):

Who cares what it's called. Probably a theory. Or maybe even a law. Beats me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its a theory too :P it woudl become a law if there is some sort of experimental proof

OpenStudy (kainui):

That's not true @Mashy . Think of Newton's "Laws" that are proven to be false by experiments done by Einstein's relativity. It's all garbage to worry about Laws or Theories, I mean, the Theory of Electromagnetism is pretty awesome and I couldn't be talking to you without it. Theories are definitely proven by experiments too. In my opinion, it's pointless to make a distinction. They're both pretty much true in my book, and no one can know anything absolutely certain. What if I was dreaming and trigonometry doesn't exist? Whatever lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand what you are saying.. law or theory what is there in the name right? but what i m saying is a fact.. what you are talkng about is true.. and its for that reason we have what we call as the CLASSICAL PHYSICS.. and the RELATIVISTIC physics.. ofcourse there can't be an absolute law.. we are not THAT evolved maybe :P.. but within certain limits of accuracy it can become a law.. a theory on the other hand is just an explanation given.. no evidence.. for example.. quantum tunneling is NOT a law.. but a theory... cause if i ask u to prove it u can't even begin to come even near to proving it but newtons laws.. sure you can prove all of them within CERTAIN degree of accuracy (and a very high one of course :D cause its not everyday that things get subluminal speeds)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SO the reason why we have to understand this is because tomo when someone tells u its a theoyr .. or its a law.. you get an idea.. oh its a theory .. meaning just an explanation oh its a law.. ther must be experimental support.. u see we are just adding vocabulary to the language of science.. to communicate more efficiently ... hope you get my point :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the explanation is called a proof.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

proof is when u do it purely mathematically.. u get the math right!
