i have to do an essay on What features make a question scientific, and why are some questions beyond the boundaries of scientific investigation? Be sure to include examples to support your answer
A question is scientific when it can be answered by using logic and scientific information we have currently, or if there is scope for it to be answered in future because of further development in technology / theories. Scientific questions are based on facts that are observed, just like that of magnet attracting bits of iron, etc. Few questions like existence of God / existence of demons are beyond science as they are not based on any observation.
thank you so much kappa!
Mike is in a hardware store. He hears a large crash and turns toward the noise. He sees a toddler walking by an overturned cart. Mike states that "the toddler knocked over the cart.” His statement is an inference because he did not observe the cause of the crash. an inference because he blamed it on someone else. an observation because he saw the cause of the crash. an observation because he heard the cart turn over.
so, basically it's the 'observational' background that renders a question scientific. Scientist have a duty towards explaining the natural processes or the manifestations of them, around the world and space. Science does just that, explain the logic behind the occurrence of an event, and at the same time the non-occurrence of another.
an inference
would it be A?
oh, yes.
Observation and experimentation have led scientists to accept a theory about the atom. This theory is called the Atomic Theory. Scientific evidence collected and observed by scientists over time suggests that the atom has a nucleus, containing protons and neutrons, and electrons that travel as waves around the nucleus. What makes this a scientific theory? It has been proven to be scientific fact through all the experiments and investigations. It is based on the beliefs and opinions of the majority of the scientific community. It is an observation of the natural world that has been proven as fact. It is based on many scientific investigations and is accepted by the majority of scientists.
i think it would be A or D?
I'd go with A
you have more ?
Using what you have learned about scientific investigations, explain the statement: "One feature that makes scientific knowledge so strong and durable is that it is open to change.”
how would i answer that in an essay and yes i have alot more
'sigh' , don't worry I'll try a few more
A scientific theory is considered to be the most powerful explanation scientists have to offer for a given phenomenon. Explain what makes a theory such a strong explanation.
i dont have a lot just a few
You can give examples of how certain theories have evolved, you know, like, scientists in the past believing that Earth was at the centre of the universe, and many more theories which are nothing but silly hypotheses in this modern world. But continuous inquiry and research, observations, investigations keep refining the knowledge base we have. Science is never stagnant. Newton gave his laws, but the quantum theory scientists went further, and so on our knowledge is being continuously renewed.
ok
Astrology is a pseudoscience because it needs to be tested more before it can be a real science. it claims to be, but is not, a science. it is a controversial science. it is a new and unproven science
i think its a?
me too ..
are you sure?
that's the toughest question :P umm, I think it could very well be 'b' Okay, I'm with b now.
any more ?
nope :) but thank you!!! A lot!!!!
