can someone please help me with my conics problem!? PLEASE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need to form an equation that represents this real life conic (parabola)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y - k = a(x - h)^2 i believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

formula for a parabola

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the equation is (x - h)2 = 4p(y - k), p ≠ 0 or this but i am not sure which one or how to use it to make a form. for this picture?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

|dw:1376345463469:dw| I put the vertex where x=0 cos that'll make h zero, making this your equation. \[\Large x^2 = 4p(y - k)\] But you need to know the height of the arch (this height will be k) and also how far apart the two legs are - the legs are at (g, 0) and (-g, 0) and will be used to find p (either point will work).
