The roots of a polynomial are (-5/3) and (2/7). What are possible factors for a polynomial?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

what polynomials? I see 2 fractions there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the roots are a and b, then the polynomial would be (x-a) (x-b) so for your case they are -5/3 and 2/7 so it would be (x+5/3) (x- 2/7) = 1/21 (3x+5) (7x-2)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

heheh, the original posting was edited now it says the "roots" :P

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

anyhow, as @moneybird said :)

How do you know to do that?
