first, we need to have some restrictions at a and b to get the minimum of a+b, I mean a,b>0 by that.
second, I could not find any way to find the answer unless if I used optimization ...

okay we can use the idea of the local minimum to state the minimum of a+b , the problem is we have to find the absolute minimum but not local to state the minimum value of the function , anyways the the function a+b has no minimum unless a,b > 0 so make sure this condition is given !
