How to annotate a book?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try not to read the book first then annotate as it takes twice as long, instead annotate as you go along and you'll find it to be a breeze. Unless the teacher has given you specific things to annotate stick with the usual annotation style. When annotating these, describe why they are important to the overall story. Always refer to the story in your annotations. You can easily loose points for not including the analysis.

Could you give me an example? I kinda want a little outline of what things to look for.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

follow only annotation style . and remind urself that You can easily loose points by not including the analysis.

Analysis is the connection between things.Always two.Another special tool to annotate will be asking questions like 'why' or 'how'.
