where does the function intersect the x-axis ? f(x)=x^2+7

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

This function has no real roots, thus it DOESN'T intersect the x axis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you know it doesnt have any real roots ?

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Because if you solve for x in that equation you get \[\sqrt{-7}\] which is not a real number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, that's where i got stuck but i couldn't figure it out. thanks a lot!(not in a sarcastic way) (:

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

You can even look at it graphically. If you shift the graph of \[x^{2}\] 7 units upward you see that no part of that graph touches the x axis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right, right. i understand. thanks for your help, i really appreciate it(:

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

That's good buddy!
