Find the measure of the smaller angle formed by the hands of a clock at the following time.
ok, the entire clock is at degrees of 360. Same degrees that goes in a circle. So if u divide each hour by 12 your equation will look like 360/12=30 degrees. 5:00 is shown in the figure u presented, which means one hand on 5 and the seconds on 12. So 5(30) equals the answer
if so would this be this? http://i.imgur.com/mWaKRQu.png 360/9 = 40 degrees. 6(40) = 240 degrees is le awnser.?
so am i correct or....?
240 degrees is not correct for the second clock if the question is still asking for the measure of the smaller angle. How many parts are between 9 and 2?
7
start at 9 and go to 2. How many hours are between 9 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon?
6
It's actually 5; if you look at the clock and start on 9, when you go to 10 that is one hour. Do this 4 more times and you will land on 2. This gives us a total of 5 hours.
ok
Now that we know that we have 5 hours (or parts), and we know that each part is worth 30 degrees, we can multiply 5(30) to get 150 degrees as the smaller angle. Does this make sense to you?
yes
Ok good. Do you have another similar problem that you would like to go over?
Nope! ty!
