Read this passage from the text: The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it—and the glow from that fire can truly light the world. What figure of speech is Kennedy using in this sentence, and what effect does he want these words to have? He is using hyperbole to inspire Americans to lead the rest of the world by their example. He is using irony to explain that a single glow can never light up the entire world. He is using metaphor to compare the countries of the world according to the quantity of light they produce. He is using a contradiction to explain that even though some lights are so bright, they cannot illuminate great distances.
