Find the remainder when f(x) is divided by (x - k) f(x) = 3x4 + 11x3 + 2x2 - 7x + 61; k = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to do synthetic division?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kind of, i tried it and got the remainder of 598

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Me too! Sounds correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright sweet! i know how to do these things, im just really iffy on the validity of my work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good luck!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks!

OpenStudy (loser66):

you can plug 3 into the equation where you see x , the result is the required remainder .

OpenStudy (loser66):

got what I mean? for example , if ( just example) f(3) = 5 , so 5 is remainder of f(x)/x -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, i see what you are saying! thanks loser! lol

OpenStudy (loser66):

ok, it's quite easy and you can check, 100% right and no need to take long division or synthetic.
