Some Spanish explorers in the New World set up large commercial farms, called ____________, on Caribbean islands.
Hello! Welcome to Open Study :)
They were called Plantations.
Most were made for getting sugar.
And they had slaves working on them. At first they were using Native Americans, but they kept dying because of the European diseases. They were not immune to them :( So then they started bring Africans slaves through the middle passage (The Atlantic Slave Trade is something you might want to look into. Here's a photo) and started using them instead because they were more immune to the European diseases.
There were 2 routes for the Atlantic Slave Trade. One was the New England triangular trade, and the other was the European triangular trade.
