Consider this: How many possible sides can a cross section of a cube have? I count six faces on a cube, so that would mean you can't have more than six sides.

So octagon because 8 > 6

Right, that would be my guess. I can't find a conceivable way for an 8-sided figure to be drawn as a cross section.
