A triangle drawn on a map has sides of lengths 7.0 cm, 10 cm, and 15 cm. The shortest of the corresponding real-life distances is 116 km. The longest of the real-life distances is _____ kilometers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If shortest length is 7cm with corresponding real life distance of 116km, ratio of real life:drawn is 116/7 (with units km/cm). Multiply this ratio by the longest drawn length being 15cm we get 15cm x 116km/7cm = 248 and 4/7 km. So longest of real life distances is 248.5714 km. Alternatively it can be observed that the long distance is 15cm/7cm bigger than the shortest provided distance (116km). 116 multiplied by 15/7 equals 248.5714 km

so if youre rounding to the nearest whole number is it 247
