Anyone listen to Chopin?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you Scott Joplin?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mean*

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

Actually, this user means Chopin, a composer from the Romantic period. :) I love Chopin, especially the minute waltz and all of his nocturnes and stuff. I also listen to Rachmaninoff. Do you listen to him @Piano_Endeavorer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i think im gonna check him out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@splatter6 Haha, yeah I meant Frederic Chopin but I love Joplin's ragtime compositions as well. I've played a few of his rags actually including Maple Leaf, The Entertainer, and Heliotrope Bouquet. @Jamierox4ev3r I am recently getting into listening to artists like Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff so I'm not very familiar with all their pieces. However, I do love Chopin's waltzes as well as they're his easier to play pieces and his etudes are brilliant and I hope I'll be good enough to play an etude of his one day.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

yeah! what about some Czerny while you are at it, his etudes are always fun :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL Czerny. I have his school of velocity book but I've only mastered one of them--the first one :D @Jamierox4ev3r

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

lol are you serious? I've mastered about half lol the school of velocity, that loathesome book.... XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep the first exercise. LOL Wow that's amazing. I looked at the second one and got bored haha. I hope to find the courage to brave through more than just the first page. And I just bought it from a random music store out of curiosity because of my teacher. Is the book really that bad, though? xD

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

lol i was actually kidking, but question? how long have you been playing piano for @Piano_Endeavorer ?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

hellooo? lol :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

About 10 years or so. Not sure how many hours though. What about you?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

lol i would have to same about the same lol ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:P so do you take examinations for RCM or ABRSM? And have you heard of Kyle Landry?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

RCM ? ABRSM? wut? lol I take examinations from ASP, and PMTA! and no have not heard of Kyle Landry (lolz almost said Kyle Laundry)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's because we live in very different areas. o.o It's like 2:00 AM where I live right now LOL. Isn't the PMTA program located up north? Like Illinois or something? RCM is in the Florida area. And yes everybody makes that joke about him :P he's a youtube pianist that's become quite popular. He's really good and he makes covers for just about everything lol

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

PMTA is Phoenix Music Teachers Association, its in Arizona :) and thats cool, I should listen to this Laundry man lol :P it is 11:00 where I live lol (at night) so I am guessing you live in NYC or something? idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow I was only an entire country's width off Yeah I get a lot of inspiration from him! And nope I live in Florida :D So what other types of music do you usually play?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

lol oops oh well :P close enough right? XD I like to make play cool piano parts in pop songs on the piano (when I was your man, just give me a reason) etc. I am very versatile and I love improv. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nice. I can relate though; pop songs are great fun to improvise on! However, playing them exactly how they are is really boring :P my main method is sheet music but I'm still trying to build up my improv attribute. Though I'm not sure if I'll have time to do so since I start my first year in high school next Monday -cringes at that thought- :\

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

yeah exactly, lol my school already started five days ago :P And I take piano as a class, so I am a lucky person lol :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol I took 3 months off of my piano class (June to August) but now I'm getting back into it for September :) I wish my school had a dedicated piano class though. It's just music theory disguised as "Piano 1, 2, 3 and 4" >.> you are very lucky :P well it's getting late I think I'm gonna go now. It was great talking to you Jamie! Good luck with playing the piano and have fun! :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

yeah I go to Arizona School for the Arts, and I take Advanced Piano. We have actual keyboards, they are pretty nice lol :P nice talking to you, I will be seeing you around :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chopin is my favorite. I'm a big fan love his nocturnes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I love playing chopin (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Glad to see other people appreciating the older music :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I highly appreciate Chopin:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are your favorite pieces from him? @*Sumiko*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

probably nocturne fro piano no. 9. i also like variations on "Raindrops", Concerto no. 1 and many others. you?

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

@Jamierox4ev3r Totally agree, Cherry is one of the best excersises possible. Tho I also love Hanon's books. I love Chopin, I played his Minute Waltz and he has some great piano sonatas. Rachmaninov is also so beautiful... Right know, I'm into Satie. This is the most beautiful fluttering piece of all time... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Erik_Satie_-_gymnopedies_-_la_1_ere._lent_et_douloureux.ogg

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

oh god Hanon D: haha wow those excerises are...intense. Hey maybe I can play the gymnopedies for you, I played most of them in 6-7th grade :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha, I also like that arrangement of his Raindrop prelude :) So far I really enjoy listening to Chopin - Waltz Op. 64 No. 2. and a bunch of his other waltzes too. Fantasie Impromptu is also a fun one and his black keys etude is one of my favorites. There are some others I've listened to but not as extensively. I will have to continue my research :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have memorized and performed raindrop prelude by Chopin, by far my favorite piece to perform

OpenStudy (anonymous):

listin to deuce 9lives

OpenStudy (anonymous):

never heard of them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chopin is amazing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
