I have to write an article about over population so if you guys have any good information or anythings that might help me with my article plz send it to me :). And if u guys know any sad story about it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What you could do is look at over populated countries or cities and see what it looks like/ and write about what it looks like.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should determine what cities you would like to focus on. Then discuss the effects of the current population on that city. Then, by looking at the effects of overpopulation on an overpopulated country you can speculate and apply those facts to the country you first chose.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The Duggar family. The hazardous waste being caused by industrial type animal farms used to feed the volume of humans. Hans Rosling’s talks on statistics and population, especially \(\textit{Religions and babies, }\) \(\textit{Reducing child mortality – a moral and environmental imperative,}\) and \(\textit{Population growth explained with IKEA boxes }\) http://www.gapminder.org/videos/ Also look into availability of potable water and pollution issues. Did a project for a health class and I made a magazine, "The Overpopulationist" that took a sort of reverse view on things. Tried to promote overpopulation as good, but in truth it was exposing many of the very real issues with not reducing population levels.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@e.mccormick That is a good example. The Duggar family is quite large with 20 children now. It is a great example of overpopulation because they consume more then they produce. Into economics here but they consume more products then can be produced by a manufacturer. So therefore the products being used are not being made fast enough. Therefore the producer must work at the margin to produce for the Duggars. I also remember doing a project similar in health class. Of course you can go into much more detail then whatever they have you complete in health.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much guys tht really helped :)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Hans Rosling’s stuff also dispels myths about religion and makes it clear what is happening that keeps population growing. What he does not really go into is the fact that the numbers he shows we will have are 10 times the number the planet can viably support without humanity destroying everything through pollution. Another issue with The Duggar family is that the older children were forced to become parents to the younger ones because they had a herd more than a family. That basically changed the lives of the first children. They became parents long before their time. The idea of a large family was a part of agrarian necessity. It was the only way to have a labor force for a farm. That is gone, but yet they push heavily the ideal that this should be maintained.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All of the information of the Duggars is a perfect example of overpopulation as well as a traditional or Agrarian society. Either way, you are welcome khadeeja and glad we could help.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I would say pre-industrial values rather than traditional. These days the "traditional" values are much different because it is the values of the prior generation or two that make up traditional values. For a long time it was two generations all the time, but we have moved grandparents out of the house almost completely, so it is just one generation much of the time. This means what is traditional is changing at near twice the pace of any time prior to that migration of grandparents to homes and retirement communities. Another problem with traditional values is the that present generation generally does no know what theirs are. In all of human history, people have generally had a disconnection between what they said and did. For example, in the time of chivalry and medieval knights, they had the stated codes of honor as their spoken belief and what they claimed was the traditional values. However, these honorable men were regularly murderers and rapists as part of their duties. So the real values were far lower than the stated ones. Another example is in a study I have heard about but never seen myself. They claim that the largest use of internet porn is in Utah, a state with a very "upstanding" and "conservative" population that promotes "strong family values." Porn and strong family values are not exactly the in the same boat, so stated traditional values and actual values are very much at odds there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah indeed. Traditional is represented differently now. It is true that if you were to say traditional someone would take it the wrong way. But yes pre-industrial is a more accurate depiction. Family values are all relative but in a general sense when someone says traditional they think 1700s type of family. So I can see what you mean here. Definitely not, they are not in the same area for that matter. Indeed values in general though clash with each other no matter what kind of values.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

People misuse traditional a lot.... or it may be that in Sociology it is more restricted in meaning. It is, in Sociology, the mores and values passed between generations that the previous generation generally clings to more firmly than the next.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Agreed, a term that passes through generations is construed and eventually loses its meaning. By this point there are several words and sayings that do not remotely have the same meaning as they once did. It is similar in concept to how gay is now used to describe a homosexual when by definition the word means happy.

That was very interesting. It also helps that the animation is well done, it conveys the idea in a good way.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

And it shows how true your statement was! It is not like people did not eat pork before it was called pork... the old name was just lost due to the new name.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it is all true and it is also sad how little people actually know about this today.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yh u right .....i didnt even knew tht until the teacher told me to write an article about it.
