OpenStudy (erinweeks):

The following data represents the normal monthly precipitation for a certain city.

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

Find the sinusoidal function of the form \[y=Asin(\omega x - \phi) + \beta \] that fits the data.

OpenStudy (erinweeks):

@amistre64 can you help? or @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you spose that this is a best fit problem? or is it an exact fit problem?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if its an exact fit, then the range would give us the amplitude and vertical shift

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3.91 to 8.19 is a range of 4.28; divided in half is 2.14 for an amplitude the midpoint is 6.5 to give us an "exacting" start of say: 2.14 sin(...) + 6.5 if we subtract 6.5 from the given set of elements and divide them by 2.14 we should get this into a more normal looking sin setup

OpenStudy (amistre64):

6.05 .. not 6.5

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that gives us a -1 at month 0, and a 1 at month 6
