Please help me understand this Solve the system by addition. x + 4y = 2 3x – 2y = –22

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

the terms in y have opposite signs.... so an easy way to eliminate y is the double the 2nd equation and add them together as 4y -4y = 0 and you will be left with an equation with a term in x on the left and a constant value of the right... hope this makes some sense
