HELP PLEASE METAL AND FAN !!! ASAPPPPPPP The figure below shows CB = 4, BE = 5, AB = x - 4, and DB = x + 3. If ΔABC ~ ΔDBE, the value of x is _________

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well looking at the problem is just ratios of corresponding sides in similar triangles. you then your have \[\frac{5}{4} = \frac{x+3}{x-4}\] cross multiply and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would I Multiple The Whole Equation X-4(5) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cause I Got x=1.33

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

yep so its 5(x -4) = 4(x+3) distribute 5x - 20 = 4x + 12 now solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9x=32 x=3.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait Is It X=32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

|dw:1376691055645:dw| You can see the diagram. Because they are similar, hence sides are proportional. \[\frac{ x+3 }{x-4 }=\frac{ 5 }{4 }\] cross multiply and get the solution.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats the correct answer @Mature_Autumn

OpenStudy (campbell_st):
