Lets first talk about the Louisiana Territory. This territory was bought from France. President Thomas Jefferson had continuously used the New Orleans port due to trading. After a lot of observation from France's leader Napoleon Bonaparte, he decided to give the Louisiana Territory to the US. This piece of land stretched all the way to the northwest. After buying the land for a certain amount of money, Jefferson had decided to send William Clark. But Clark had insisted to take Meriwhether Lewis. Them two had explored the land along with Sacagawea as their translator for the Native Americans. The next piece of land was taken after a war with Mexico. This war was called the Mexican American war. One piece of land was California and all the other states that are connected with Mexico. Since the US had won the war, they got the land.
