You can begin by downloading a couple Chinese apps. Also, here is the link to a very useful CCTV show "Growing up with Chinese". There are 100 episodes. It is not much, but it will start getting you warmed up. By the way, do not wait until 8th grade when you can start now. http://english.cntv.cn/program/learnchinese/growingwithchinese/

i would start by finding as much free stuff you can print of or download online andn use them for self study. so you can start the class with a bit more knowledge than the others in your class. your grades may end up being better too if you start studying the basics now.
