what is intracellular digestion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Intracellular digestion is a digestion which takes place within the cytoplasm of the organism. There is another type of digestion, called extracellular digestion. Intracellular digestion occurs in many unicellular protozoans, in Pycnogonida, in some molluscs, Cnidaria and Porifera. In amphioxus, digestion is both extracellular and intracellular.[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intracellular_digestion
