Graph the ordered pairs (-2, -1) and (3, -5) and draw a line through the two points. Which quadrant is untouched by the line? Explain how you found your answer.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

where are you stuck?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont really understand it at all

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So okay so let me try to explain it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

alright go for it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well quadrant 1 and 2 arent touched because they are both is the bottom 2 quadrants so they dont go through the top two

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

extend the line indefinitely in both directions (as far as you can)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

does it ever cross into quadrant II?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh youre right if i did extend the line it would go into quadrant 2 so quadrants 2, 3, and 4 have the line passing through it.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good, the line never goes through quadrant I

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but it does go through the other 3 quadrants

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i understand now.. thanks so much!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
