If the graph of y = |x| is translated so that the point (1, 1) is moved to (4, 1), what is the equation of the new graph? y = |x - 3| y = |x| - 3 y = |x + 3| y = |x| + 3

OpenStudy (psymon):

So which coordinate did we move, x or y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x

b??

OpenStudy (psymon):

I apologize. ANd we are moving the x-coordinate, yes. Now we either have numbers that are grouped with x or not grouped with x. In order to actually move the graph along the x-coordinates, we have to be grouped with x.This means the + or - must be inside of the absolute value bars alongwith x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A

OpenStudy (psymon):

Yes, A :3
