Solve the compound inequality 6b < 24 or 4b + 12 > 4. How do I do it?
do you know how to solve equations ?
6b < 24 or 4b + 12 > 4 i.e. b < 24/6 or 4b > 4-12 i.e. b < 4 or 4b > -8 i.e. b < 4 or b > -8/4 i.e. b < 4 or b > -2 thus -2<b<4
you solve inequalities just about like equations except for a few rules. One rule is for inequalities, if multiplying/dividing by a negative, the inequality sign changes. That rule does not apply in this case. 6b < 24 -- we want to get b by itself, so in this case we will divide both sides by 6. 6b/6 < 24/6 b < 4 4b + 12 > 4 subtract 12 from each side 4b + 12 - 12 > 4 - 12 4b > - 8 now divide both sides by 4 4b/4 > -8/4 b > - 2 so we have b is less then 4 and greater then -2 -2 < b < 4 I wanted to explain how to do it, rather then just giving the answer
