HELP PLEASE !! I Think Its B After Darwin proposed his ideas about natural selection, scientists began trying to test his ideas in a variety of ways. Which of the following best explains why it was important that scientists did this? They had to see if this new idea fit the evidence they found in their experiments. They knew they would be left behind by the scientific community if they did not. They needed to discredit Darwin as quickly as possible with contradictory evidence. They were compelled to prove that this new idea was correct and Lamarck was wrong.

Well I think the answer which makes the most sense to me is "They had to see if this new idea fit the evidence they found in their experiments". Scientists are people who want to prove things, not people who want to discredit other scientists by getting contradictory evidence as quickly as possible.

@thomaster wrong, scientist compare theories and when a new theory so groundbreaking like natural selection comes along they aren't just going to blindly accept it. What you are implying is that all scientist work in harmony, but that is not the case, all you have to do is look at the history of rivalry's between notable scientists, trying to discredit another scientist's works is quite common, it is this that leads to some of the greatest discovery's known to man. If anything I suggest you read a little more about Charles Darwin and how he spent 20 years researching natural selection because he knew something as controversial as natural selection would see a lot of backlash from the scientific community.
