extraneous solutions is just an extra solution that does not work
OpenStudy (precal):
quadratics can have extraneous solutions, especially if it is in a word problem and you need a positive solution
OpenStudy (precal):
square roots also, have extraneous solutions. These are just some types, but there are many others. You know if it is extraneous when it violates the domain or when you test it and it does not work.
