What were some bad things about being conquered by the Ottomans? What were some good things?

The Ottomans were one of the more ruthless empires. Made even the Romans seem like nice guys.

If you resisted their rule they executed you, usually ritually in a very painful fashion. Vlad the Impaler learned impalement from the Ottomans.

The Ottomans employed convert by the sword fairly often. Those groups that were not converted to Islam they demanded a tribute of so many boys every year from each village. These boys were turned into a special military unit. They were converted to Islam and cut off from their family and heritage forever.

The Ottomans were heavy slave traders. So many who were conquered went strait to the slave markets. For men that all to often meant castration. Women all to often it meant heading to a brothel or harem.

Genocide was common. The Armenians were the most recent and best published. Many other groups including those who would eventually be called Palestinians suffered under Ottoman rule. The worst however was probably against Romanians and other SE European nations. Millions were killed merely for being non-Muslim or not the right kind of Muslim.
