3x^2 = -x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what's your problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi know the answer is 0,-1/3 but I don't know how to get to that conclusion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first:\[3x^2+x=0\]then:\[x(3x+1)=0\]then:\[x = 0\]\[3x+1=0 \rightarrow 3x=-1 \rightarrow x=\frac{ -1 }{ 3 }\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

mhmdrz91 has used the fact that if the product of two terms equals zero, (a)(b)=0 then either a=0 or b=0
