Find the difference. 14x - (x^2 + 8x) = Having some issues with this problem. Please help?

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

this is similar to other problem you have 14x - x^2 + 8x combine like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-x^2 + 22x??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay!! Thank you!

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

sorry my mistake

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

it should be 14x -x^2 -8x

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

but you are on the right track, now you can combine

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-x^2 + 6x?

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

now is correct

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

when you are taking out of parenthesis is like multiplying by the negative, you had - (x^2 +8x), so you need to change the signs, the positive x^2 becomes -x^2 and the positive 8x becomes -8x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay. I got it now .

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

:)
