what are the basic differences between digestion and egestion?
Egestion is when you are eating the food while the digestion process is when then food is already eaten and is in the process of being broken down
^Minor mistake. Egestion is REMOVAL of the by-products of digestion from the body. Digestion is the breaking down in INJESTED food to simpler forms which can be used by the body.
Egestion: Animals that ingest bulk food unavoidably take in some matter that they are incapable of using. In the case of unicellular organisms that form food vacuoles, the vacuoles eventually fuse with the cell membrane and then rupture, releasing indigestible wastes to the outside. Substances that cannot be digested, such as cellulose, pass into the colon, or large intestine. There water and ions such as sodium and chloride are reabsorbed, and the remaining solid material is held until it is expelled through the anus. Fecal constituents in species with an alimentary canal also include cast-off effete (damaged or worn-out) cells.."Encylclopedia Britannica" Digestion: Digestion is the mechanical and chemical breakdown of food into smaller components that are more easily absorbed into a blood stream, for instance. Digestion is a form of catabolism: a breakdown of large food molecules to smaller ones."Wikipedia" Well putting in simple words.."Digestion is when the food cant be broken down so it goes into the stomach for breakdown and egestion is when the broken food goes through juices and goes towards the anus.":)
