how is atoms related to matter

OpenStudy (kainui):

All matter is made up of atoms. For instance, one molecule of water is 1 oxygen and 2 hydrogen atoms.

OpenStudy (chenping):

In Relativity, matter and energy are inseparable. Both can be converted into each other. Rutherford was the guy who founded the prehistory of atoms of which only we started to look at matter into smaller scale. Nowadays the world is so full of scientic theories related to the existence of atoms. One famous theory that links both Relativity with Quantum is String theory. And since the existence of the subparticles that made up the atom is vague, so we are basically not existed! We are but just forms of light reflected by the spinning of those particles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Atoms are the smallest parts of an element that still contain the properties of that element. Elements are the basic building blocks of matter and cannot be broken down into different substances.
