What role did the Muslim leader Salah-al-Din (Saladin) play in the Crusades?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He was considered a nemesis of the Crusaders, defeating their armies at the Battle of Hattin and paving the way forward for the eventual fall of Jerusalem into Muslim hands (later prompting the Third Crusade). At the same time, a number of chroniclers wrote about his chivalric behavior towards his enemies, treating those defeated justly.

OpenStudy (toots):

He recaptured Jerusalem from the Crusaders.
