What might happen if a website doesn't meet web standards?

i guess nothing happens... it just stays there and is termed a FLOP.

Depends on which standards. A site can load in basically anything if it has only a few proper tags.... and even without those most browsers will display it as a text file and it will work. However, the further you are from the standards, the less likely it is that things will work right. Though... pretty much no site actually follows the standards. They usually come close but break a few rules and most ignore the entire accessibility part of the standards.
