Natureland Garden Center buys lawn mowers that list for $679.95 less a 30% trade discount. What is the dollar amount of the trade discount?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

1% of something just means that we have 1 part out of 100 pieces if we take and divide that value into 100 pieces, 1 part is 1% they want 30 parts .... \[30*\frac{n}{100}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

brooo its trade discount list price x discount rate. and i need the net price which is list price-trade discount

OpenStudy (amistre64):

your post is asking for the dollar amount of the discount itself. If you are wanting the dollar amount after applying the discount, then your post does not reflect that.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

What is the dollar amount OF the trade discount? What is the dollar amount AFTER the trade discount? 2 different solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so basically i need what is the amount of the discount

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct ... so list price, times % equals the dollar amount that is to be discounted. list - discount = purchase price

OpenStudy (amistre64):

purchase price can also be determined as: list price, times (1-%)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so i get 203.985 do i have to round it or no>?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

679.96*.3=203.985 do i need to round or no?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

... thats what i was wondering :) the "dollar amount" would lead me to say 203; but its vague to me what they are actually wanting. 204 seems as just a good an answer :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because i do online college and idk because it doesnt say to round or not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could it just be 203.98 or should i just go with 204?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

is it graded by a person? or by a computer?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and does the phrase "dollar amount" have a specific meaning in terms of financial stuff. The vernacular always kills me when trying to decipher these things :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omputerc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is why it kills me because on my last assignment it gave me 18/40 i hate computer grading

OpenStudy (anonymous):

apparently i have to round in an email from my instructor

OpenStudy (amistre64):

from what i can gather on the google ... 203.985 rounds to 203.99 as a "dollar amount"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ic thanks

OpenStudy (amistre64):

unless it says to "round to the nearest dollar"; then the "dollar amount" is stated in a $xx.cc format if you have excel, clicking on the $ formater should give the "dollar amount"

OpenStudy (amistre64):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks because i do have excel :D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck :)
