Find the specified vector or scalar.

If \(u=-4i+1j\) and \(v=4i+1j\), then \(u+v=(-4+4)i+(1+1)j=0i+2j\) What's the magnitude, \(\|u+v\|\) ?

OpenStudy (explainitlikeimfive):

How do I find magnitude?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Given some vector \(r=ai+bj\), the magnitude is given by \(\|r\|=\sqrt{a^2+b^2}\). For \(u+v\), you have \(a=0\) and \(b=2\), so the magnitude would be \[\|u+v\|=\sqrt{0^2+2^2}=\cdots\]

OpenStudy (explainitlikeimfive):

2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes
