How to factor x^2-25/5-x?
do you know how to factor x^2 - 25 it is (a^2 - b^2) = (a+b)(a-b)
Yes! I can factor the top but not exactly sure what to do for the bottom. I have to put in the answer for an online class so it could be that im typing it in wrong
ok the bottom is the same as -(x+5) right
Yeah I have(x-5)(x+5) for the top
so you have (x+5)(x-5) --------- -(x+5)
now you can cancel the (x+5)
I have just 5-x under the bar like it was originally in the problem. How did you get -(x+5)?
you have 5-x, which is the same as -x+5 which is the same as -(x-5) and I'm sorry I put -(x+5) but the correct form is -(x+5) when you take that out of the parenthesis -(x-5) you have -x+5
the correct form is as follows: (x+5)(x-5) ---------- -(x-5)
Oh you're right! I overlooked that detail! Thanks so much, I get it now!
-(x-5) is the same as -x+5 which is the same as 5-x
so the end product would be x+5 ------ -1
correct, which is the same as -(x+5) or -x-5
Great, thanks so much!
yw :)
Oh wait one last question, haha sorry! Buuut... I have (x+5)(x-5) __________ -(x+5) I know that the x+5 cancels out and then I get x+5 ------ -1 but when I typed in my response it said that the answer is -x-5, which I know you mentioned something about -x-5 but I think I'm overthinking it so I just got confused!
Oh I figured out why, thanks again!
