5x + 3y = -7 and 7x - 3y = 55. Solve the system of equations using the elimination method.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

5x + 3y = -7 7x - 3y = 55 ------------- you will notice that when you add them, the 3y's cancel out and you are left with 12x = 48 just solve for x by dividing both sides by 12 and you will find x. Once you have x, you can sub that back into either of the original equations and solve for y. you can then check your answers by subbing in what you got for x and y into either of the original equations, and if the result comes out equal, then you have the correct answers. If not, then there has been a mistake made.
