How do you determine which direction that a graph of a quadratic equation opens? Is it possible to have a parabola that does not have a line of symmetry?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Look at the sign of the quadratic term. No.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So when a > 0 the graph opens up and a < 0 the graph opens down?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Assuming y is linear and x is quadratic. left and right for the other way around.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see. Thanks.
