3x8-(7x2+4)
PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction) This is the order of which you do these kinds of problems/operations. Remember: it goes from left to right. 3x8-(7x2+4) 3x8-(14+4) 3x8-(18) 24-(18) 24-18 6
thanks so much i kept getting one answer but when i tried to check it in the calculator it gave a different answer
No worries! I always have calculator issues too :)
can you explain to me exactly how to do it because i really dont understand the order and i keep getting all the wrong answers
Okay. sure, so when you see a problem like this: 3x8-(7x2+4), the first thing that should come to your head is to work inside the parenthesis. Don't touch anything until you handle the stuff in the parenthesis. (7x2+4) ---> This is the stuff in the parenthesis, we first see that there are two operations in this, multiplication and addition, because of PEMDAS, we know that the multiplication part of this goes first. So 7x2 = 14. (14+4) ----> Now we solve this addition problem. 14 + 4= 18 Then going back to the original problem: 3x8-(7x2+4) this is now this 3x8-(18) Now once again, according to PEMDAS, we do multiplication first. So its going to be 3x8 which is 24. 24-18 ----> Now finally subtract and get your answer. 6 Tip: If you ever get a problem for example like this (4x5)-5+(6x7)--->where there are two parenthesis in the same equation, then you do the parenthesis from left to right, so that means that the 4x5 goes first, and the 6x7 goes second. Like this: (20)-5+(42) Remember that Multiplication and Division are equal in terms thats You don't have to do multiplication first or division first. You just have to start with the first thing on the left and go from LEFT to RIGHT, always.. So its going to be 20-5 = 20 + 42 = 62. But anyway, For your particular problem the answer is 6. Hope this helps!
yes it did thank you so much , it make much more sense now :)
Oh and just remember that Multiplication/Division are grouped together and are done from left to right. So are Addition/Subtraction. However, if you get Multiplication/Subtraction (multiplication goes first) or Division/Addition (division goes first). The same thing can be said for Multiplication/Addition or Division/Subtraction. Glad to help. No problem :)
