we want 5y by itself so first we have to subtract 3/5 from both sides. Can you do that ?

5y - 3/5 + 3/5 = 4/5 + 3/5 as you can see the 3/5's cancel out on the right side leaving us with 5y = 4/5 + 3/5. Understand ?
