What is the matrix P that projects onto the column space of matrix Q? What is matrix projecting?

Hi Jordan, can you give a reference to the question you're asking? Is this from Strang's book or assignment, or somewhere else?

Not really sure what you're asking, but one possible idea is this: The basis of Q (consisting of the linearly independent vectors in Q, e.g., Q has 4 vectors but only 2 are linearly independent [which are also the pivots]) forms a plane. P is projecting some vector, say vector b, onto that plane.

Thank you.
