How do i write this word problem without words? Betty sells 34 CDs for 8.49 each and 13 records for 3.15 each plus receives a 20% bonus for records becs. good condition. How much does Betty get for both? (34 * 8.49)+ (13*3.15) . I don't know how to put in the 20% of records

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You multiply the number of records by 0.20 to get 20%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes and then add to total but how do I write the problem. I know how to figure it out but not how to put in problem form

OpenStudy (phi):

20% bonus means if you start with $x, and add 20% of x 20% is 20/100 or 0.2 so this would be x + 0.2x factor out the x to get x(1+0.2) or x*1.2 or 1.2x in your case, the cd s and records get you (34 * 8.49)+ (13*3.15) can you see how to account for the 20% bonus ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know what to do to get 20% of records but still don't know how to show inthe steps

OpenStudy (littlebird):

Does the problem want you to make an equation out of the information?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

showing order of operations

OpenStudy (phi):

20% bonus on the records means (34 * 8.49)+ (13*3.15)*1.2 the 1.2 multiplies the amount received for the records

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh and then I don't have to add anything.

OpenStudy (phi):

or you could write it (34 * 8.49)+ (13*3.15)+ (13*3.15)*0.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok got it thanks
