FAN AND MEDAL WILL BE AWARDED <3 Tf kind of questions are these ? Someone do it for me and I will give you a medal <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (phi):

why don't you write a rule for a function: f(x) = do something to x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm just confused with the entire concept . I wouldn't know where to begin , honestly . Algebra is not for me .

OpenStudy (phi):

do you know the equation for a line ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe it's y = mx + b .. ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its ax+by+c=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it question/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ivettef365 please helppp :((

OpenStudy (phi):

** I believe it's y = mx + b *** that is fine now pick some nice numbers for m and b and instead of y, write f(x) you will now have a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How is --- f(x) = 8x + 3

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. they want your function to have at least two operations. You have 8 times x and plus 3 so that is ok

OpenStudy (phi):

can you do question (4) ? what is f(3) ? to find f(3), replace x with 3 in your function, and simplify... do the arithmetic can you do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What was I supposed to put for question 3 again ? And yes I will simplify that

OpenStudy (phi):

to repeat to convince someone it is a function, you want each input is related to exactly one output you can say this is a line, and for every x there is exactly one y value so it is a function

OpenStudy (uri):

u want ansurs!! @LaynaMae

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Huh ? ^ and okay @phi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uri is preetha??? lulwut u switched souls?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Phi , I got -3 as the asnwer

OpenStudy (phi):

you start with f(x) = 8x + 3 they want f(3) that means replace x with 3....look for all the x's, erase them, and put a 3 in their place what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uhh , well when I worked it out I got -3 .. Is that not the correct answer ? :o

OpenStudy (phi):

don't do anything tricky just do this replace x with 3....look for all the x's, erase them, and put a 3 in their place in f(x)= 8x+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wouldn't that be ---- f(3)= 8(3) + 3

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. now use order of operations: multiply first, then add what is 8 times 3 ? then add another 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24 + 3 = 27

OpenStudy (phi):

so for f(x)= 8x+3 you found f(3) = 27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct

OpenStudy (phi):

that is question (4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay , give me a few minutes to type it all in my word document.

OpenStudy (phi):

For (5) see http://www.purplemath.com/modules/invrsfcn3.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm still not understanding :( Can you work through it with me ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it , but now I need help on the last question !! @amistre64 @Preetha ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Luigi0210 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just need help on the last question D:

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what are your f(x) and its inverse (im assuming thats the g(x))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is what @phi helped me get ---- f(x) = 27 and the inverse i got was y-3/2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i think you might be confusing f, composed of 3; with your f, composed of x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sure .. I've been confused from the beginning lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh , f(x) is 3 lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

f(x) = some equation in terms of x f(3) = 27 is a solution when x=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I remember now lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what is your f, composed of x ? f(x) = ??

OpenStudy (amistre64):

from the previous posts it looks like: f(x)= 8x+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes , that's it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then your inverse is off, prolly a typo g(x) = (x-3)/8

OpenStudy (amistre64):

now the last question is asking: does f, composed of g; equal the same thing as g, composed of f? since f, composed of x is: 8x + 3 then f, composed of g is: 8g + 3 and g = (x-3)/8 giving us: 8(x-3)/8 + 3 and since g, composed of x is: (x-3)/8 then g, composed of f is: (f-3)/8 and f = 8x+3 giving us: ((8x+3)-3)/8 do they equal each other?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm , yes they equal each other

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then explain that to the martians ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay , thank you

OpenStudy (amistre64):
