Making a poem is not really that hard. Take Spike Lee's Ode to a Fish: Oh wet pet. That is it. A poem in three words. You usually need to use some set cadence or rhyme, but these days it seems like people just add line breaks into something and suddenly it is a poem. (They used to call non-rhythmical stuff prose.) These days it is easy to find a rhyme. http://www.rhymezone.com/ http://www.rhymer.com/ Add to this the syllables in a word. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fermented Then you can pick form or cadence, like 5-4-5 syllables, and just work with it. Just get something with 3 or 4 lines for simple ones. If you get good at it, a short story suddenly distills down to a few stanzas. Never Steal a Pixie's Wine By their fermented, faith invented, theft of wine maligned. In doom cemented, fate tormented, woe and toil behind. Was never prevented, fain augmented, acts of roil consigned. For death presented, fay contented, blood and boil combined. The Grim resented, fake relented, then did as designed.
