How are derivatives and one-sided derivatives related?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Do you mean limits?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (abb0t):

The definition of a dervitative is defined by it's limit.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

If the limit at both sides are the same, then the limit exists and is said to be defined at that point. Limits only discuss continuity of a function..

OpenStudy (abb0t):

That's how they're related, i think. Im not sure what you're talking about if you don't mean limits.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know the definitions of derivative, left-derivative and right-derivative? The derivative of a function at a point exists iff the left-and right-derivatives both exists at that point and are equal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's already been said, but, concisely put, derivatives are limits, so one-sided derivatives are one-sided limits.
