What are the factors of x2 − 7x − 30? (x − 10)(x + 3) (x + 10)(x − 3) (x + 15)(x − 2) (x − 15)(x + 2)

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Any ideas?

nope

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Try FOIL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok first off you check if the x^2 has something in front of it if it does multiply it by 30, here the equation if you don't understand the values: ax^2 + bx + c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This one doesn't have anything in front exept a 1 so just leave it like it is, next find all the factors of "c" in this case -30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 * -30 2 * -15 3 * -10 5 * -6 since its negative you have to do extra work and flip the negatives to the other side: -1 * 30 -2 * 15 -3 * 10 -5 * 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now you find the pair that ADDS up to "b" or -7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i still didnt get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well another thing you can do is what skullpatrol said try foil

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is basicly distributing thirst pair of parenthesis to the second pair

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if you think its the first one you do this: (x − 10)(x + 3) x * x, x * 3, -10 * x, -10 * 3
