Books Read Number of People 0 - 2 25 3 - 5 60 6 - 8 50 9 - 11 120 12 - 14 25 Find the median and what category does it fall under?
This is a bit confusing for me , can you attach a picture ?
attach something or clarify more, please.
Do you need the median of books or people ?
I edited the question, the formatting got a little funky. Does that help?
People I believe.
Yes it does . Alright , one second . (:
Median is 50 .. Do you need mode , range & mean ?
what does 0-2 mean?
25 people read 0 to 2 books
Heres the rest of what I got... The local library is doing some research on how many books are read by their customers. If the demand is high, as determined by the median number of books, private donors have agreed to make generous contributions to purchase more books in some of the most popular sections. Here are the results of what the research done by the library assistants showed. Then I got the data Then this: Why do you think categories were used in the research rather than asking for a specific number of books? Most probably people can't remember precisely how many books they have read, so they make a quick estimate from memory. We have two sets of numbers here and one set is a collection of categories rather than single numbers of books. Each category can stand by itself, but we want to be able to calculate the median of the data and see where it is. Decide for yourself which type of data graph would best fit the situation and then run your cursor over the following types to see if you are correct.
and @squior9213 needs the median of people or books? or both?
She said people .
people I'm assuming....I'm getting really confused.
Then this. With this type of graph, the category labels go along the horizontal scale and the number of readers becomes the vertical scale. Again we must decide upon an appropriate increment for the number of readers. The highest number is 120, so an increment of 20 people should work fine. The problem also requires finding the median of the data set. Do you remember how this is done from the numbers? First determine whether the total number of readers is odd or even. (25+60+50+120+25) = 280. This is an even number, so divide it by 2. 280/2 = 140. The median is halfway between the 140th and the 141st numbers. We leave this as an assignment question for you to determine its exact location in the set. For now, you may click on the box below to find out what the histogram should look like. Notice that the number of readers can be included in the graph above each bar.
I'm just not understanding what theyre looking for..... @Sceenie
They want the number of people .
Where did 140 come into play?
They're trying to confuse you , trust me . If you have an Algebra 1 EOC , They throw stuff like this out there all the time , they want to see how smart you are & The 140 is there to confuse you .
Have fun ladies I'm not on track anymore.
The quesion is this: Find the median of the data set in Example 3. In which category does it fall? So would the answer simply be 50? It would fall under 6-8?
@Sceenie
I think so. Stick to the question limits and you'll be fine.
Thanks! I'll just roll with it /:
right out all of the numbers, then find the middle, maybe every make a dotplot or a stem plot if its easier for you
You should. Is it a HW?
also are they asking for the interval or just a single number?
I'm not sure! And yes @Four. it's homework.
Good. If the teacher tried to blame you just say I did it as I understood.
If not, I have two attempts. I'll just ask what she's looking for then go from there.
There's always a chance.
She's not available right now, otherwise I would've already done this.
ikr?
It's right! Yahoo!!! Thank you @Sceenie and @Four. !!(:
You're welcome deary ! (: I don't know if you watch anime , but when I read " Yahoo ! " I read it how Black Star from Soul Eater would say it . ^-^
Anime lovers everywhere. You're welcome!
I am for sure ! :D <3
